We apologize for being away from here for too long of a stretch, but like trees after a winter’s thaw, WE’VE COME GLORIOUSLY BACK. Okay, “gloriously” is probably a bit of an overstatement, but, nonetheless, here we are! 😬

We’re well into summer now, and work around our beautiful borough continues to busily buzz! The Hufnagle Park project led by our friends at the Lewisburg Borough is in full swing (a glimpse of which can be seen in the background of the first photo), and we can hardly wait to see it when it’s done. A brand-new, state-of-the-art amphitheater and all kinds of park-wide accessibility improvements? YES, PLEASE.

We’ve also been busy 🐝🐝 here at the Shade Tree Commission. Those of you who have recently planted trees have undoubtedly noticed the slow-release watering bags we’ve added around the bases of their trunks. These bags—placed in support of and gratitude for your partnership in keeping our community beautiful and cool and green—provide slow, continuous watering that promotes deep root growth and protection against drought shock. (Our previous two summers have certainly reminded us of the importance of the second thing.) And while our fingers are crossed that we’ll continue to get regular rain this year, the Lewisburg Tree Tenders will be faithfully monitoring and refilling them as needed to make sure our new trees don’t miss even one moment of their benefit.

For now, we’ll close with our hope that everyone is having a great summer. Don’t forget to water yourselves and to also wear your sunscreen. And if you happen to pass by any of our bagged trees, maybe stop a minute and say something nice to them. Because we all need a little bit of water *and* a little bit of love to help us grow.
